We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD researcher to join our team at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research group focused on understanding the mechanisms of multiple sclerosis (MS) and developing novel therapeutic strategies to overcome remyelination failure in MS.
Research ProjectThe PhD researcher will work on a project that aims to reveal whether injury-naïve MS astrocytes functionally differ from injury-naïve normal and MS sibling astrocytes, including their response to (inflammatory) factors present in MS lesions. The project will involve human iPSC-derived glial and neuron cultures, morphometrics, RNA-sequencing analysis, proteomics, CRISPRa/i, and confocal microscopy.
Requirements- Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences, (Cell) Biology or Neuroscience
- Strong scientific drive and motivation
- Team player mentality, pro-active, flexible and result-driven attitude
- Good oral and written skills in English
- Experience with human iPSCs or one of the techniques mentioned above is an advantage
We offer a full-time PhD position for the duration of four years, preferably starting April 1, 2024. The salary will be a minimum of € 2,901,- gross per month in the first year and a maximum of € 3,677,- gross per month in the final (4th) year, based on a full-time appointment. In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
