Job Description

Our research team at the UMCG is seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our project on Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The successful candidate will contribute to a better understanding of MS and the development of novel therapeutic strategies to overcome remyelination failure in MS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on iPSC-derived astrocytes to reveal their functional differences from injury-naïve normal and MS sibling astrocytes.
  • Investigate the response of astrocytes to inflammatory factors present in MS lesions and their impact on remyelination.
  • Develop and apply various techniques, including human iPSC-derived glial and neuron cultures, morphometrics, RNA-sequencing analysis, proteomics, CRISPRa/i, and confocal microscopy.
  • Contribute to the development of novel therapeutic strategies to overcome remyelination failure in MS.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences, (Cell) Biology, or Neuroscience.
  • Strong scientific drive and motivation.
  • Team player mentality, pro-active, flexible, and result-driven attitude.
  • Good oral and written skills in English.
  • Experience with human iPSCs or one of the mentioned techniques is an advantage.
What We Offer
  • Full-time PhD position for four years (36 hours/week).
  • Salary ranging from € 2,901,- to € 3,677,- gross per month (scale PRO).
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
