PhD Cardiologist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced PhD cardiologist to join our team at the Department of Cardiology of the UMCG. As a researcher, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of people with cardiovascular conditions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating three-dimensional human heart tissues and subjecting them to micronutrient deficiencies to identify innovative targets and mechanisms. They will also be involved in testing different treatment strategies and conducting stable isotope targeting studies in patients with severe heart failure.

• Design and conduct experiments to investigate the effects of micronutrient deficiencies on human cardiomyocytes
• Develop and implement novel treatment strategies for heart disease
• Collaborate with a medical PhD student to conduct stable isotope targeting studies in patients with severe heart failure
• Contribute to the development of a collaborative team dynamic with various PhD students and postdocs

• Master's degree in (bio-medical or medical) sciences
• Interest in translational cardiology
• Previous hands-on experience with cell or animal models of heart disease
• Affinity with data /-omics analysis
• Ability to express oneself in English in word and writing

A full-time appointment for one year (36 hours a week), with the possibility of extension for a maximum of four years. Your salary will be a minimum of € 3.017,- gross per month in the first year and a maximum of € 3.824,- gross per month (scale PhD) in the final (4th) year, based on a full-time appointment. In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
