PhD Position in Cardiology and Translational Science

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD student to join our team in the field of cardiology and translational science. Our research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of heart failure and identifying innovative targets for treatment.

Project Overview

The successful candidate will work on creating three-dimensional human heart tissues and subjecting them to micronutrient deficiencies to identify novel targets and mechanisms. This project will involve a combination of cell culture, tissue engineering, histology, and advanced analytical techniques such as transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute experiments to investigate the effects of micronutrient deficiencies on human heart tissues
  • Analyze data using advanced analytical techniques and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals
  • Contribute to the development of innovative treatment strategies for heart failure
Collaboration and Teamwork

You will work closely with our team of experienced researchers, including experimental, genetic, epidemiological, and clinical experts. Our Principal Investigator is actively engaged and fosters a collaborative dynamic. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other PhD students and postdocs working on related research topics.

Candidate Profile
  • A master's degree in biomedical or medical sciences
  • Strong interest in translational cardiology and heart failure research
  • Previous experience with cell or animal models of heart disease
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to express yourself in English in writing and verbally

The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy and can provide vaccination if required. A 'Certificate of Good Conduct' may be necessary for certain positions.
