We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our interdisciplinary team at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, UMCG. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a diamond-based quantum sensing method to assess the health of bioreactor cultures.

Project Overview

The project aims to bring quantum sensing into biomedical applications, focusing on the health of bioreactor cultures. Our team will develop a novel method to measure local metabolic activity using nanoscale MRI techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on quantum sensing and bioreactor health monitoring
  • Develop and implement novel methods for assessing bioreactor health
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of biologists, chemists, and physicists

Working Environment

The position will be based in the Department of Biomaterials and Biotechnology, UMCG. We offer a dynamic and supportive work environment with excellent guidance and facilities for scientific staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in biology or a related field
  • Strong background in microscopy, culturing of yeast, and bioreactor operation
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

What We Offer

We offer a full-time research position for four years, with a salary of € 2,901 gross per month in the first year, increasing to € 3,677 gross per month in the fourth year. In addition, we provide 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
