We are seeking a Freelance Transcriber to provide high-quality transcription services for the International Criminal Court. The successful candidate will work on a freelance basis, transcribing audio and video recordings in Pashto and/or Dari, with a working knowledge of English.
Scope of ServicesThe Freelance Transcriber will be responsible for:
- Producing accurate and timely transcripts from audio and video recordings;
- Consulting with the LSU Transcription team to clarify ambiguities and provide feedback;
- Applying feedback to ensure delivery of a high-quality product.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proficiency in listening to, understanding, and writing Pashto and/or Dari;
- A working knowledge of English;
- Prior experience in transcription or a related field, preferably in a legal setting;
- Experience using transcription hardware and software, as well as extranets;
- Good computer and information technology skills;
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Candidates will be assessed through a transcription accreditation test. Accreditation is subject to obtaining the necessary security clearance. Successful candidates will be placed on a roster of accredited transcribers.
Offers of WorkAccredited transcribers will be contacted for work assignments based on their availability, suitability for a particular project, and information security constraints. The ICC makes no absolute guarantee of freelance work.
Nature of WorkThe audio/video material outsourced for transcription may on occasion be of an upsetting or disturbing nature. Freelance transcribers must understand this and be prepared to handle such material.
