Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Technical Artist to join our team at Vertigo Games. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented group of professionals in the VR industry and contribute to the development of innovative projects.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving improvements and maintaining the toolchain for art asset creation and optimization, innovating on techniques in asset creation, and instigating high-level art-related decisions throughout the development cycle. They will also lead a team of up to 4 Technical Artists, planning their work and monitoring their performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline for art asset creation and optimization that meets the team's needs.
  • Innovate and implement new techniques in asset creation to achieve the best visual results from the target platform.
  • Making strategic art-related decisions throughout the development cycle to ensure project success.
  • Train other artists in best practices, tools, and processes.
  • Lead a team of Technical Artists, planning their work and monitoring their performance.
Requirements
  • A deep understanding of rendering theory and expertise in Unreal Engine 4/5, from blueprinting to materials and shaders.
  • Strong technical insight and experience in managing people.
  • An effective communicator with management and the team.
  • Ability to write scripts and tools using Python and knowledge of workflow optimization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in VR and familiarization with Substance Painter & Designer.
  • Highly experienced with Houdini and programming skills in C++ and/or C#.
  • Understanding of CGFX and/or HLSL shader languages and modeling and texturing abilities.
