About this Research Opportunity
Thermoplastic composites (TPCs) are a family of fiber-reinforced polymeric materials that offer unique benefits, including ease of processing, shapeability, and recyclability. These characteristics make them highly attractive for various industrial applications, such as the transport sector, where upcoming environmental legislation will require the incorporation of recyclable materials in products. The Sustainable Mobility research group at TNO is developing new TPC technologies and invites students to contribute to the following topics: 1. Hybrid TPCs - interface technology of thermoplastic composites; 2. Recycling via recipe and processing optimization of thermoplastic composites; 3. Additive manufacturing (3D printing) of thermoplastic composites; 4. Mechanical testing of thermoplastic composites.
Your Role in the Project
You will work in our research center and participate in the activities of the Sustainable Mobility team. Depending on your interest, field of study, and background, your tasks may include materials processing, design, testing, and characterization.
Requirements and Expectations
We are looking for students (BSc or MSc) with a background in mechanical engineering, material science, polymer chemistry, and/or similar fields who possess a hands-on mentality. Previous experience working in a laboratory environment and affinity to polymer chemistry and material science are a plus. Experience with thermal analysis equipment (DSC, TGA, etc.) and mechanical characterization (DMTA, tensile) would be appreciated. Good communication skills in written and spoken English are expected. The internship period should last at least 5 months.
