About Our Research Opportunity
Thermoplastic composites (TPCs) are a family of fiber-reinforced polymeric materials that offer ease of processing, shaping, and recyclability. These unique characteristics make them highly attractive for various industrial applications, including transportation and aviation sectors. The Sustainable Mobility research group at TNO is actively developing new TPC technologies, and we welcome students interested in working on the following topics:
- Hybrid TPCs - interface technology of thermoplastic composites
- Recycling via recipe and processing optimization of thermoplastic composites
- Additive manufacturing (3D printing) of thermoplastic composites
- Mechanical testing of thermoplastic composites
Your Role in Our Team
You will work in our research center, participating in the activities of the Sustainable Mobility team. Depending on your interests, field of study, and background, your tasks can include materials processing, design, testing, and characterization.
Our Expectations
We are looking for students (BSc or MSc) with a background in mechanical engineering, material science, polymer chemistry, or similar fields who possess a hands-on mentality. Previous experience working in a laboratory environment and affinity for polymer chemistry and material science are advantageous. Proficiency in using thermal analysis equipment (DSC, TGA, etc.) and mechanical characterization (DMTA, tensile) would be appreciated. Good communication skills in written and spoken English are also expected. The internship period should last at least 5 months.
