We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The successful candidate will be part of the ERC Consolidator Grant NONPHARM: "The Psychological Underpinnings of Nonpharmaceutical Interventions".
Research Project
Infectious diseases have a significant impact on human well-being, economies, and global health. Nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) can reduce the spread of pathogens and mitigate their effects. However, the psychological underpinnings of NPIs are not yet fully understood. Our research aims to increase knowledge of how and why people engage in NPIs, such as handwashing, social isolation while infectious, and creating barriers to respiratory droplets and aerosols.
Responsibilities
- Conducting literature reviews and analyzing data
- Designing and executing studies with the PI
- Coordinating with collaborators and communicating with a panel research agency
- Managing and analyzing data, and assisting or leading manuscript preparation
Requirements
- PhD in social, cultural, or evolutionary psychology (or related field, such as anthropology)
- Excellent data-analytic skills and ability to engage in effective scientific writing
- Demonstrated ability to think and work outside-the-box and excellent command of English
- A background in the evolutionary social sciences and experience with cross-cultural research and familiarity with literature on disgust, pathogen avoidance, sickness behavior, or hygiene is a plus
What We Offer
- A challenging position in a socially engaged organisation with a salary of minimum € 3.345,00 (Scale 10) and maximum € 5.278,00 (Scale 10) gross per month, on a full-time basis
- A position for at least 1 FTE with the possibility of expansion
- Attractive fringe benefits and regulations, including a full-time 38-hour working week, 8% holiday allowance, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
