We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated AI Researcher to join our team at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. As an Assistant Professor in AI, you will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in AI and human behavior, developing innovative AI solutions that contribute to societally relevant applications, and collaborating with experts within and outside our research group.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research in AI and human behavior, with a focus on developing responsible AI approaches that respect user autonomy, are transparent, and based on user consent.
- Develop and implement AI-based techniques and algorithms related to human behavior, with a focus on applications for health, wellbeing, safety, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with researchers and experts within and outside our research group to advance our understanding of AI and human behavior.
- Contribute to teaching and mentoring AI students, with a focus on developing the next generation of AI researchers and practitioners.
- Perform management tasks within the department, with a focus on supporting the growth and development of our research group.
- PhD in AI, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
- Research background in human-centered AI, with a focus on developing responsible AI approaches.
- Proven interest in the safety, sustainability, or health domain.
- Expertise in one or more of the following research areas: computational modeling, reasoning, and knowledge representation, behavior change technology, and/or machine learning.
- Experience with practical implementations with meaningful impact.
- Commitment to ethical AI practices.
- Ambition to be part of a collaborative working environment.

What We Offer- A challenging position in a socially engaged organization.
- A salary of minimum € 4,332.00 (Scale 11) and maximum € 5,929.00 (Scale 11) gross per month, on a full-time basis.
- A position for at least 1 FTE, with the possibility of a permanent contract after 18 months.
- Attractive fringe benefits and regulations, including a full-time 38-hour working week, 8% holiday allowance, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
