PhD Position in Bio-Inspired Safe Envelope Sensing and Upset Recovery
1 maand geleden
The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to work on a project focused on bio-inspired safe envelope sensing and upset recovery. The project aims to develop a new paradigm in control theory, Artificial Physical Awareness (APA), which requires the onboard autopilot to quickly detect upsets and determine optimal recovery trajectories to prevent loss-of-control.
The PhD researcher will collaborate with an international team of researchers to study flying insects and identify and model their sensorimotor reflexes. The principles behind these reflexes will be harnessed in a novel bio-inspired safe envelope detection and recovery methodology for autonomous robots.
Requirements- Excellent knowledge of bio-inspired robotics, biophysics, control theory, flight dynamics, and system identification
- Excellent programming skills in C++, C, Python, and Matlab
- Experience with working with insects in laboratory conditions
The PhD researcher will be offered a 4-year period of employment in principle, with an initial 1.5-year contract followed by an additional contract for the remaining 2.5 years. The salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
Faculty of Aerospace EngineeringThe Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology is one of the world's most highly ranked research, education, and innovation communities devoted entirely to aerospace engineering. The faculty is focused on sustainable aerospace, big data and artificial intelligence, bio-inspired engineering, and smart instruments and systems.
