Job Description

This PhD project is part of the ERC Consolidator Grant project "ARCS", which aims to develop a new paradigm in control theory: Artificial Physical Awareness (APA). APA seeks to provide robots with accurate knowledge of their physical capabilities, which are reduced in unknown ways after faults and failures. The project requires accurate and up-to-date knowledge of the safe envelope, which is the region of the state space where safe operations can be guaranteed.

Requirements

To be successful in this project, you will need:

  • Excellent knowledge of nonlinear control theory, flight dynamics, reachability analysis, system identification, and stochastic systems theory.
  • Programming skills in C++, C, Python, and Matlab.
  • Affinity with working with flight hardware.

Nice-to-haves include experience with working with hardware such as drones and piloting drones.

Conditions of Employment

As a PhD candidate, you will be offered a 4-year period of employment in principle, with two employment contracts. The first contract will be for 1.5 years, with a progress assessment after 15 months. If everything goes well, you will be offered a second contract for the remaining 2.5 years.

The salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from €2770 per month in the first year to €3539 in the fourth year.
