About the Project

In this research project, we aim to enhance existing capabilities to monitor multimodal corridors by providing platform functionality and supporting work practices to transition towards resilient and climate-adaptive synchromodal corridors. Developing such a platform requires collaborative efforts to share data and establish interorganizational processes to mitigate risks of reverse modal shift and reduce its cascading effects.

Research Objectives
  • Develop a Resilience Toolbox to assist companies and public stakeholders in building resilient corridors individually and collaboratively, with a focus on transforming existing corridors.
  • Design and create a Digital Twin for resilient multimodal corridors to support the transition into a synchromodal corridor capable of utilizing the optimal modality at any given time.

This PhD opportunity primarily concentrates on the first objective, conducting essential research on resilience in multi-modal logistics. The research will contribute to the development of novel quantitative and qualitative methods, techniques, organizational strategies, capabilities, and interventions to enhance resilience. The second objective will involve collaboration with an EngD student to jointly develop a digital twin platform, providing a robust testbed for experimental development and evaluation of the resilience toolbox.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic researcher with a natural curiosity and:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in industrial engineering, management science, operations research, operations management, or information systems and computer science-related engineering field.
  • Affinity and/or experience with Resilience, Multimodal Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Digital Twinning, and Data-driven Decision Making.
  • A strong team player who enjoys working in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment.
  • Apt at conducting independent research and eager to enhance writing and publication skills.
  • Displaying a strong commitment to creating positive societal impacts and possessing exceptional collaboration skills with private and public organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English.
