Position Summary
The transition to sustainable energy in Europe is a pivotal challenge, aiming to establish the continent as climate-neutral by 2050. The Netherlands and Germany are committed to significantly enhancing offshore wind energy capacity, targeting 30 and 22.2 Gigawatts respectively by 2030. Our client plays a vital role in ensuring that this renewable energy is efficiently transmitted to the mainland, with a focus on environmental sustainability. The 2GW program, designed with a unique transnational strategy, is central to accelerating this energy transition.
We are seeking an:
Electrical Engineer – Telecommunications
Large Offshore Projects:
In alignment with the Energy agreement, which outlines the objectives for a renewable energy transition, a strategic roadmap for offshore wind energy by 2030 is being developed. This includes the IJmuiden Ver (DC) projects, with our client committed to implementing at least two (potentially up to five) 2GW HVDC Grid Connection Systems. These systems will facilitate the transfer of energy from offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the national electricity grid.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist senior Telecommunications Engineers with network communication topics, focusing on the functionality and installation of operational technology (OT) and office IT, broadband data transmission, and WAN/LAN infrastructure, including copper, fiber optic, and wireless technologies in offshore wind farm grid connection projects;
• Engage in hands-on tasks related to offshore ancillary systems, such as VSAT systems, CCTV connections, maritime VHF radio, satellite communications, public address and general alarm (PAGA) systems, and telephony;
• Oversee quality and progress control of contractors during construction and installation phases, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and specifications;
• Review technical documentation and ensure alignment with underlying specifications;
• Manage functional tests, inspections, and commissioning activities;
• Serve as a point of contact for both internal and external project/service partners.
This role will primarily focus on offshore projects in the Netherlands and will also support the Telecommunications Engineer in developing a new onshore telecommunications concept.
Candidate Profile:
• A university degree (or equivalent) in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field;
• Comprehensive knowledge of network and radio telecommunications;
• Practical experience with commercial communication systems, including SDH technology, MPLS systems, and VoIP systems;
• Familiarity with IP network components (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) and telecontrol/network control protocols (IEC / -104, IEC 61850);
• A proactive mindset, willingness to learn, strong teamwork skills, and adaptability;
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English;
• Compliance with occupational health standards for offshore assignments;
• Availability for travel and possession of a valid driving license (class B);
• Commitment to fostering a safe working environment for oneself, colleagues, and external contractors.
