Background Information

The EUV light source plays a crucial role in ASML's advanced lithography systems. The Machine Conditioning EUV Source department is responsible for the specification, analysis, design, and testing of fluid and thermal subsystems and control solutions. Within this department, the Source Infrastructure group focuses on the specification, design, and qualification of gas and cooling water supply systems.

Your Assignment

Flexible hoses are widely utilized in the fluid and thermal designs surrounding the EUV sources due to their unpredictable mechanical behavior. Often, it is challenging for our engineers to accurately predict the mechanical performance of these hoses during the design phase. The primary objective of this internship is to develop guidelines that enhance the understanding and prediction of the static and dynamic performance of flexible hoses.

Your Tasks Will Include:

  • Research existing literature on flexible hose behavior, potentially collaborating with suppliers;
  • Develop numerical models to simulate the behavior of existing hardware;
  • Validate models by comparing results with experimental data;
  • Create specific test cases to confirm the accuracy of numerical simulations;
  • Analyze the effects of boundary conditions, part-to-part variations, and environmental influences;
  • Thoroughly document your findings.

Your Profile

To qualify for this internship, you should:

  • Be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering;
  • Have a strong foundation in mechanics, mechanical dynamics, and vibration theory;
  • Possess experience in static and dynamic calculations (FEM analysis);
  • Exhibit a proactive attitude and a curiosity-driven mindset;
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

This internship is designed for 4-5 days a week (2-3 days on-site) and lasts between 5 to 8 months.
