Purchasing Supervisor Job Description

This position is accountable for ensuring the procurement of raw materials, services, and supplies at the least total cost while meeting production requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain raw materials and services at the lowest total cost in accordance with division, corporate, and local plant directives.
  • Implement and control the procurement of raw materials, packaging labels, and supply items in the proper quantity and desired quality to ensure uninterrupted production flow.
  • Forecast raw material needs, place and schedule purchase orders to meet demand at Automotive manufacturing sites.
  • Procure materials to maintain responsiveness to production requirements and obtain the best possible quality.
  • Approve raw materials and some finished goods purchase orders as needed.
  • Issue or control purchase orders for all raw materials, plant supplies, and purchased finished goods at the plant, including confirmation of orders.
  • Process vendor returns and maintain vendor files related to Purchase Orders and requisitions at the site.
  • Monitor vendor performance data and sub-standards to bring about corrective action.
  • Dispose of and control obsolete and surplus materials in collaboration with R&D, Warehouse, Planning, and QC.
  • Create and maintain forecasts for raw material and packaging materials.
  • Assist AP with Invoices that require assistance, such as incorrect prices or quantities.
  • Requirements:
    • Degree in Operations, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent education and experience.
    • 3-5 years of experience in a procurement/buying role in a manufacturing environment.
    • Providing professional supply chain activities.
    • Developing and analyzing reports.
    • Complying with department policies and procedures.
    • PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applications as required.
    • Communicating with co-workers and suppliers to provide and receive direction.
    • Knowledge of at least one ERP system.
    • Assertiveness.
    • Able to work under stressful situations.
