Position Overview

The challenge lies in designing high-gain antennas tailored for compact Cubesat systems.

Your Responsibilities

Reflectarrays present a compelling option for high-gain antenna systems in space applications such as Earth observation and satellite communications. Traditional high-gain antennas typically utilize quasi-optical systems that incorporate one or more curved reflectors (e.g., Parabola, Cassegrain, Gregorian). However, creating a foldable version of these antennas poses significant challenges, especially when aiming to fit them into a Cubesat that is considerably smaller than the antenna itself.
Reflectarrays replicate the functionality of curved reflectors using flat panels equipped with multiple passive radiating elements, enabling the design of high-gain antenna systems that are more amenable to folding and integration within a compact Cubesat platform.
The primary objective of this project is to investigate a foldable reflectarray solution, focusing on the radiating elements and quasi-optical systems to minimize losses and maximize gain.

Expectations from Candidates

Candidates should be nearing completion of a degree in electrical engineering or a related field, with a demonstrated background in applied electromagnetism and antenna technology. Proficiency in programming with Matlab or Python is essential, along with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
