Position Overview
This internship focuses on the innovative design of high-gain antennas tailored for compact Cubesat systems.
Your Responsibilities
Reflectarrays present a compelling option for achieving high-gain antenna systems in space applications such as Earth observation and satellite communications. Traditional high-gain antennas typically utilize complex quasi-optical configurations involving multiple curved reflectors (e.g., Parabola, Cassegrain, Gregorian). However, creating a foldable version of these systems poses significant challenges, especially for integration into small Cubesats, which are considerably smaller than the antenna itself.
Reflectarrays offer a solution by emulating the curved reflector using flat panels equipped with numerous passive radiating elements, enabling the development of high-gain antenna systems that are more amenable to folding and compact integration within a Cubesat platform.
The primary objective of this project is to investigate a foldable reflectarray design, focusing on the radiating elements and quasi-optical system to reduce losses and enhance gain.
Expectations from You
The ideal candidate is nearing completion of a degree in electrical engineering or a related field, with a demonstrated background in applied electromagnetism and antenna technology. Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab or Python is essential. We value a pragmatic approach and a strong focus on practical implementation. In addition to technical skills, effective communication and a results-oriented mindset are highly regarded.
