Position Overview

In light of our recent growth, we are on the lookout for certified Aircraft Fitters to enhance our Defence manufacturing operations.

As an Aircraft Fitter, you will be tasked with executing standard activities in accordance with Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures, prioritizing safety for yourself and your colleagues.

Collaboration is key; thus, effective communication, adaptability, and willingness to work various shifts and overtime will be essential.

Your role will also involve proactively identifying safety issues, promptly reporting problems to your Team Leader, and suggesting improvements (Kaizen).

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Working on a diverse range of aircraft main and sub-assemblies, utilizing appropriate assembly techniques, tools, and fixtures, in compliance with technical data and competencies.
• Interpreting and understanding technical drawings, processes, and procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory quality standards and customer specifications in both Composite and Metallic structures.
• Executing tasks to the highest standards, adhering to established work protocols, and promptly reporting any safety or quality issues to your Team Leader.
• Emphasizing a safety-first approach and complying with all GKN Aerospace Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
• Understanding and contributing to your team's key performance indicators related to People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash, and Cost.
• Achieving certification at the Lean Foundation level and implementing at least one Kaizen initiative monthly.
• Collaborating with your team and Team Leader in problem-solving and sharing insights based on your experiences.
• Actively participating in team initiatives to create a 'Great Place to Work' by exemplifying a safety-first attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Holding yourself and your colleagues accountable to embody the GKN Aerospace culture principles.
• Ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Candidate Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

• Experience as aircraft fitters, supported by evidence of a 2-4 year time-served apprenticeship and/or relevant certifications, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and procedures.
• A strong sense of pride in workmanship, with a keen focus on quality.
• A collaborative spirit, eager to contribute to a high-performing team.
• Effective communication skills.
• A commitment to safety.
• Eligibility to work in the UK.

Important Note

This position requires UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance (SC) due to the nature of the responsibilities involved.
