Position Overview

In light of our significant growth, we are in search of several certified Aircraft Fitters to enhance our Defence manufacturing operations.

As an Aircraft Fitter, your primary responsibility will be to execute the essential tasks assigned to you, adhering strictly to the Work Instructions and/or Standard Operating Procedures, while ensuring your safety and that of your colleagues.

Collaboration is key; therefore, effective communication, adaptability, and the willingness to work various shifts and overtime are crucial for this role.

Proactively identifying safety issues, promptly informing your Team Leader, and proposing improvement initiatives (Kaizen) will be expected from you.

You will contribute to fostering a 'Great Place To Work' by promoting a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and open communication.

Your Team Leader will provide the necessary support for your training and development.

Key Responsibilities

Typical duties include:

• Working on a diverse range of aircraft main and sub-assemblies, utilizing appropriate assembly techniques, tools, and fixtures, in accordance with technical data and competencies.
• Interpreting and understanding technical drawings, processes, and procedures, while working within the sub and final assembly production areas to meet regulatory quality standards and customer specifications. This role will involve working with both Composite and Metallic structures.
• Performing all tasks to the highest standards, complying with established work protocols and your training, and promptly reporting any safety or quality issues to your Team Leader.
• Emphasizing a safety-first approach and adhering to all GKN Aerospace Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and standards.
• Understanding your team's performance indicators related to People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash, and Cost, and recognizing your contribution to these metrics.
• Achieving certification at the Lean Foundation level and implementing at least one Kaizen initiative each month.
• Assisting the team and Team Leader in problem-solving by sharing insights based on your experience.
• Actively participating in team efforts to create a 'Great Place to Work' by exemplifying a safety-first mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Holding yourself and your colleagues accountable to embody the principles of GKN Aerospace culture.
• Ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Candidate Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

• Experience as aircraft fitters, supported by evidence of a 2-4 year time-served apprenticeship and/or relevant certifications, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and procedures.
• A strong sense of pride in their work, with a focus on quality.
• A collaborative and friendly demeanor, with a desire to contribute to a high-performing team.
• Effective communication skills.
• A commitment to safety.
• Eligibility to work in the UK.

Important Note

This position requires UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance (SC) due to the nature of the responsibilities involved.
