Delft, Zuid-Holland, Nederland TU Delft Voltijd
Job Description

The TU Delft is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join the GLITTER project, a pioneering initiative in the field of GNSS-R satellite earth observation. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a novel approach for retrieving information from the reflecting surface using Global Navigation Satellite Systems-based Reflectometry (GNSS-R).

The PhD project focuses on computing electromagnetic wave field propagation operators from GNSS-R data recorded at multiple receivers. The researcher will investigate the use of formation flight nano-satellites to generate a dense virtual antenna array near the ground surface, improving the possible resolution of surface and subsurface soil moisture maps. The project also involves 3D full-wave inversion using redatumed GNSS-R data to make surface and subsurface soil moisture maps.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in physics, geophysics, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a related field. They should have knowledge of and proven ability to work with wave propagation and representation theorems, as well as strong numerical and programming skills for forward and inverse problems.

The PhD researcher will be part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Geosciences at TU Delft, a world-renowned institution for its research and education in civil engineering, applied earth sciences, and related fields. The researcher will have the opportunity to work with a team of experts in the field and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for advanced earth observation.

The PhD position is part of the EU Doctoral network GLITTER and offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The researcher will be enrolled in the TU Delft Graduate School and have access to a range of resources and support services.

Requirements
  • Master's degree in Physics, Geophysics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Knowledge of wave propagation and representation theorems
  • Strong numerical and programming skills for forward and inverse problems
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • English proficiency at a high level
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Opportunity to work with a team of experts in the field
  • Access to a range of resources and support services
  • Participation in the EU Doctoral network GLITTER
  • Enrollment in the TU Delft Graduate School
