Position Overview

In the realm of radar technology, frequency selectivity plays a pivotal role. The presence of unwanted frequencies, particularly higher-order harmonics, can lead to significant interference or even damage to adjacent systems. To mitigate these issues, frequency filtering is typically employed within the RF chain of a transmitter (TX) using various electronic filters, including lumped and distributed element filters. However, these conventional components may fall short in achieving the necessary suppression levels when dealing with extremely high power outputs in a TX chain. This is where Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS) come into play; these innovative flat panels, crafted from specialized materials, facilitate frequency filtering at the radiation level by manipulating the electromagnetic waves emitted by antennas.

Your Responsibilities

The primary objective of this project is to explore an FSS solution for integration into a radar system, ensuring a high rejection rate of higher-order harmonics while minimally impacting the system's radiation performance in terms of gain and scanning range, all while accommodating very high radiated power levels.

The Department of Radar Technology comprises a dedicated and innovative team of professionals, consisting of approximately 60 members, who are committed to the specification, development, and assessment of cutting-edge, high-performance MMICs, miniaturized and integrated RF subsystems, antennas, and front-end systems. This department is at the forefront of pioneering radar systems and signal processing concepts across military, space, and civil sectors.

Candidate Expectations

The ideal candidate is nearing the completion of a degree in electrical engineering or a related field, possessing a strong background in applied electromagnetism and antenna technology. Proficiency in programming with Matlab and/or Python is essential, along with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
