Shipbuilding Expert for Vulnerability Reduction

We are seeking a highly skilled Shipbuilding Expert for Vulnerability Reduction to join our team at Damen Naval, the naval division of the family-owned Damen Shipyards Group. As a key member of our research and development team, you will play a crucial role in the design and engineering activities related to naval vessel security.

Role Overview

The Technical Specialist Vulnerability position involves ensuring intelligent system design and the application of advanced technologies to enhance survivability against threats. This multidisciplinary role requires close collaboration with colleagues responsible for mechanical and electrical system design, structural design, arrangements, and other key disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will contribute as a technical specialist to the Research & Development, Proposals, and Engineering departments by developing, reviewing, and advising on deliverables such as aspect management plans, aspect analysis reports, calculations, simulations, technical specifications, and test/validation protocols for complex projects
  • You will support Verification and Validation tests and trials during the production support phase or as part of a research project
  • You will actively participate in the development of your field of expertise and promote findings within potential projects
  • You will support design reviews and deliver high-quality engineering work within agreed timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints
  • You will ensure full compliance with all applicable requirements and specifications
  • You will contribute to the continuous evaluation and improvement of processes, tools, and the development, transfer, and retention of knowledge within the department
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field, coupled with at least one year of relevant experience
  • Expertise in one or more specialized technical subjects such as system design, vulnerability reduction concepts, or signature reduction concepts for naval vessels and/or offshore installations
  • Experience in vulnerability reduction and system design and in complex project environments is an advantage
  • Strong communication skills, with experience collaborating with research institutes, universities, engineers, and project and tender managers in naval shipbuilding or a related industry
  • Good command of the Dutch and English language both written and verbal
  • Excellent references and antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary of €70,000 - €90,000 per annum, 8% holiday pay, 27 holidays, and 13 ADV days. Additionally, we provide a travel allowance of 23 cents per kilometre, a PME-pension arrangement with an employer contribution of 60%, profit sharing based on company results, working from home policy, and other benefits including a bicycle plan and company fitness.
