PhD Position in mmWave Radar and Machine Learning for Privacy-Aware Monitoring Systems

2 maanden geleden

Delft, Zuid-Holland, Nederland TU Delft Voltijd
Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at TU Delft to work on a project that aims to design privacy-aware monitoring systems using mmWave radars and machine learning. The goal of this project is to create a system that monitors a given area without compromising individual privacy.

Monitoring is a critical aspect of smart homes, buildings, and cities, and it is essential to ensure that these systems are designed with privacy in mind. Current monitoring systems often rely on cameras, which can be a concern for citizens. Our project aims to investigate alternative monitoring platforms that do not provide personalized information, even if they are hacked.

The PhD researcher will work on the intersection of deep learning and embedded systems to develop a system that is accurate, yet works with limited computational and energy resources. The research will involve designing the embedded system, optimizing machine learning models, and connecting with edge and cloud services.

The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field. A solid knowledge of embedded systems and/or deep learning is required. Prior knowledge of mmWave radars is a plus, but not necessary.

The PhD researcher will be part of a joint collaboration with Signify, a leading Dutch company, and will spend around 80% of their time in Delft and the remaining time in Eindhoven. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project with a strong industry partner.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field
  • Solid knowledge of embedded systems and/or deep learning
  • Good English language proficiency
  • Team player personality

Conditions of Employment

The PhD researcher will be offered a 4-year period of employment in principle, but in the form of 2 employment contracts. An initial 1.5-year contract with an official go/no-go progress assessment within 15 months, followed by an additional contract for the remaining 2.5 years assuming everything goes well and performance requirements are met.

The salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2,872,- per month in the first year to € 3,670,- in the fourth year. The TU Delft offers a customizable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.

For international applicants, TU Delft has the Coming to Delft Service, which provides information for new international employees to help them prepare the relocation and to settle in the Netherlands. The service also offers a relocation package for partners and organizes events to expand their social network.
