Drive Data-Driven Decision Making

Brenntag is undergoing a transformation to deliver profitable growth and sustained efficiencies. Data & Analytics is a key pillar enabling us to improve decision-making at speed. As part of the Data & Analytics leadership team, this role has accountability for creating Advanced Analytics solutions to inform decision-making throughout Brenntag.

Lead the Advanced Analytics Team

You will lead a team responsible for designing, developing, and implementing analytics products used for decision-making. Your ambition is to create a team of skilled data scientists who engage in knowledge sharing and best practices. The Advanced Analytics team is critical in enabling algorithmic-driven decisions and actions.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with Stakeholders: Explore opportunities to develop data-driven solutions using statistical modeling and machine learning algorithms.Translate Analytical Findings: Partner with business teams to package analytical findings into compelling business plans for action and impact.Build Trust and Drive Adoption: Demystify solution intricacies for stakeholders and drive business adoption.Develop Advanced Analytics Solutions: Guide and oversee development and execution of advanced analytics solutions leading to improved performance and strategic goals.Manage and Mentor the Team: Manage performance, goals, and development potential, and evaluate potential new talent.Validate Models: Discover meaningful patterns and insights by validating appropriate models.Build Best Practices: Adopt new best practices and processes for end-to-end development and deployment of advanced analytics models and solutions.Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with a team of data scientists, product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to take opportunities from concept to scaled solution.Stay Up-to-Date: Apply industry and technology trends, as well as emerging tools and techniques relevant to the discipline.Drive Continuous Learning: Develop new skills and share knowledge through mentorships and contributions to the open source community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree: In a quantitative field such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, operations research, behavioral sciences, or related field.
  • 6+ Years of Experience: As a Data Scientist.
  • Strong Leadership Skills: 2+ years of working in a leadership role preferred.
  • Programming Skills: Experience with various programming languages (Python, R).
  • Applied Data Science: In-depth knowledge of applied data science.
  • Probability and Statistics: Strong experience of both probability and statistics.
  • Mathematics: A firm understanding of mathematics, including algorithm theory in machine learning and complex algorithms.
  • Hyperparameter Tuning: Experience with various hyperparameter tuning approaches, databases, and cloud technology.
  • Communication Skills: Extensive experience to communicate analysis results and subsequent impact to technical/non-technical audiences in both verbal and written form.
  • Team Player: Collaborative individual who thrives in a team environment, specifically within a matrix organization.
  • Innovative Problem Solver: Innovator and creative problem solver to tackle complicated issues.
  • Analytical and Critical Thinking: Analytical, critical thinker with a bias for action.
  • Agile Data Science Framework: Working understanding with CRISP-DM, Agile data science framework, and XP Programming, and how they're applied in workplace culture.
