Position Overview
Role Summary : Cutting Tool Engineer
The primary responsibility of this position involves both physical and digital management of tooling within our sophisticated tool management platform, TDM. Act as the process co-owner for the Cutting Tool business workflow. Establish, uphold, and refine the Cutting Tooling Process. Optimize inventory levels for efficiency. Conduct cost analysis to support decision-making. Identify and define new components and assemblies within TDM. Oversee the management of tool geometric data and cutting parameters, including Feeds, Speeds, Depth of Cut (DOC), Width of Cut (WOC), etc. Create and maintain detailed Cutting Tool drawings. Develop or specify measurement programs for tool pre-setting systems. Collaborate with CAM engineers to define and synchronize tool group drive point definitions. Establish tool numbers and lists, linking them to MBOMs. Transition tool definitions and data from legacy systems. Provide support for Operations inquiries. Assist CAM engineering queries as needed. Set up and maintain interfaces between TDM and CAM systems (CATIA, NX, VeriCut). Adapt training materials for integration into the Learning Management System. Define machine tool tables. Develop and implement chip reader systems. Manage and optimize tool life. Communicate and interface with Procurement teams. Support root cause analysis initiatives. Contribute to the development and maintenance of PFD, PFMEA, and Control Plans. This role is situated within the Systems & Industrialization department, which consists of a diverse team of 10 engineers, fostering strong collaboration with CAM Engineers, Tool Shop, Procurement, and Operations.Qualifications & Requirements:
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a hard metal manufacturing environment, demonstrating a passion for precision and multi-axis machining. Familiarity with TDM Systems is highly desirable; knowledge of CATIA, NX, TopSolid, VeriCut, and Zoller tool setting systems is a plus. You will be part of the New Product Introduction (NPI) team, collaborating with Product Architects, CAM Engineers, and Product Assurance engineers to devise optimal tooling solutions for production processes. This collaboration is formalized through a Cutting Tool Requirements form submitted by CAM engineers to initiate your tasks. Your involvement in various NPI projects is crucial, as you serve as the technical liaison with Cutting Tool suppliers to establish optimal cutting solutions. Additionally, you will handle Requests for Assistance from Operations, where prompt resolution is essential for maintaining production continuity. As a business committed to continuous improvement, your suggestions for process optimization are highly valued, and leveraging technology to mitigate process risks is a fundamental objective. The business maintains a catalog of cutting tools within a legacy system, and your management of a burn-down plan will be integral to Obsolescence Management.Skills & Experience
