Position Overview

Role Summary : Cutting Tool Engineer

The primary responsibility of this position involves overseeing both physical and digital tooling within our sophisticated tool management platform, TDM. Act as the process co-owner for the Cutting Tool operational workflow. Establish, uphold, and revise the Cutting Tooling Process. Optimize inventory levels for efficiency. Conduct cost assessments and analyses. Identify and integrate new components and assemblies within TDM. Manage geometric data and cutting specifications (Feeds, Speeds, Depth of Cut, Width of Cut, etc.). Create and sustain Cutting Tool schematics. Develop or specify measurement programs for pre-setting systems. Collaborate with CAM engineers to define and synchronize tool group drive point specifications. Assign tool numbers, compile tool lists, and link them to MBOMs. Transition tool definitions and data from legacy systems. Provide support for Operations inquiries. Assist CAM engineering inquiries. Set up and maintain TDM-CAM interfaces (CATIA, NX, VeriCut). Adapt training materials for integration into the Learning Management System. Define machine tool tables. Develop and implement chip reader systems. Manage and optimize tool life. Interface and communicate with Procurement teams. Support root cause analysis initiatives. Contribute to the development and maintenance of PFD, PFMEA, and Control Plans. This role is situated within the Systems & Industrialization department, part of a collaborative international team of 10 engineers, working closely with CAM Engineers, Tool Shop, Procurement, and Operations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a hard metal manufacturing environment, and demonstrates a strong passion for precision multi-axis machining. Familiarity with TDM Systems is highly desirable; knowledge of CATIA, NX, TopSolid, VeriCut, and Zoller tool setting systems is a plus. You will be an integral part of the NPI team, collaborating with Product Architects, CAM Engineers, and Product Assurance engineers to devise optimal tooling solutions for production processes. This collaboration is formalized through a Cutting Tool Requirements form submitted by CAM engineers to initiate your tasks. Your involvement in several NPI projects is crucial. You will serve as the technical liaison with Cutting Tool suppliers to establish optimal cutting solutions. In addition to NPI projects, you will address Requests for Assistance from Operations, where prompt resolution is essential for maintaining production continuity. As a business committed to continuous improvement, your suggestions for process optimization are highly valued, and our objective to mitigate process risks through technology is paramount. The business maintains a catalogue of cutting tools in a legacy system, and your management of a burn-down plan will be integral to Obsolescence Management.

Proficient in 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD), CADCAM Design, CAD Engineering, CATIA Design, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), Machine Tools Design, Mould Design, Software Design Tools, Tool Design, Tool Design & Verification, Tool Manufacturing.
