Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and driven professional to enhance our capabilities in computational physics, focusing on the development of cutting-edge electromagnetic solvers tailored for metrology applications. You will collaborate within a vibrant and innovative team that specializes in optical modeling and metrology inference.

Sector Information

The Development & Engineering sector at ASML is dedicated to the creation, specification, and design of novel products. The Applications Business Line offers integrated solutions that encompass computational, metrology, and control technologies, aimed at optimizing the performance of lithography products for the semiconductor sector.

Group Mission

Within the D&E Applications, the Modeling and Inference Group is responsible for developing optical and mathematical models and methodologies essential for extracting physical model parameters from optical metrology data. This involves identifying, designing, and implementing new metrics and algorithms, as well as measurement functions that exhibit optimal performance characteristics. The group is committed to ensuring the availability and advancement of rapid and precise optical models and Maxwell solvers, integrating them effectively within the simulation framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deep expertise in the development of electromagnetic solvers, particularly utilizing (spectral) Integral Equation Methods.
  • Creation of new functionalities within these Maxwell solvers, focusing on alignment simulations integrated with optical sensor modeling, emphasizing solver speed and accuracy through algorithmic advancements and application-specific strategies, potentially incorporating machine learning techniques.
  • Accountable for the development, testing, and maintenance of algorithms, transforming general requirements into operational modules, especially for the Maxwell solver.
  • Effectively communicate complex mathematical principles, algorithmic solutions, and Maxwell solver models to internal stakeholders, including those in the ASML Research department.
  • Contribute to the ASML Competencies, proposing and developing innovative metrics and algorithms that fulfill both internal and external customer product needs.
  • Review and structure technical analyses from the team, ensuring a comprehensive overview of contributions.
  • Participate in the formulation of technical product roadmaps and contribute to the generation of intellectual property that safeguards ASML products.

Educational Requirements

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science.

Experience

  • Proven academic or industry experience in developing specialized numerical algorithms within the Physics or Engineering domains, covering the entire spectrum of Computational Physics.
  • Familiarity with EM-simulation algorithms, such as integral equation methods or RCWA, is advantageous; experience in related fields like acoustics or electronic structure is also relevant.
  • Experience in developing scalable codes utilizing iterative solvers and spectral methods is preferred.
  • Strong foundation in numerical mathematics, with an interest in machine learning methodologies.
  • Proficient in HPC, Linux environments, and programming languages including C++11, Python, Fortran, and MATLAB; knowledge of MPI is a plus.
