Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and exceptional PhD candidate to join our research team at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Delft University of Technology. The successful candidate will be part of the Intelligent Sustainable Prognostics (iSP) Group and will work on developing a self-learning, prognostics-based blade load control methodology.

Research Objectives

The PhD candidate will focus on developing an interpretable prognostic model along with an uncertainty management strategy to estimate the conditional reliability and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of wind turbine blades. The candidate will also design a self-learning control algorithm that adjusts blade loading in real-time based on the predicted RUL, conditional reliability, and current health state to optimize energy output and reduce maintenance requirements.

Requirements

To be eligible for this position, applicants must have a strong background in machine learning, stochastic modeling, and Bayesian statistics. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, or R is also required. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral, are essential.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must not have been awarded a PhD. They must also not have resided or carried out their main activity in the Netherlands for more than 12 months within the last 3 years.

Conditions of Employment

The selected candidate will be offered a 4-year period of employment in principle, but in the form of 2 employment contracts. An initial 1.5-year contract with an official go/no-go progress assessment within 15 months will be followed by an additional contract for the remaining 2.5 years, assuming everything goes well and performance requirements are met.
