About the Project

This research project aims to investigate the mechanisms of dense-core vesicle (DCV) trafficking and secretion in human neurons. Using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and live-cell imaging, we aim to uncover how neuropeptides are regulated and linked to brain disorders.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our research team at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research on the secretory pathway and dysregulation in disease, using human iPSC-derived neurons and genetically encoded reporters.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in biomedical sciences, with a specialization in neuroscience, and previous experience in molecular and cellular neuroscience. Hands-on experience with image analysis and programming is also required.

  • a salary of minimum € 2.872,00 (PhD) and maximum € 3.670,00 (PhD) gross per month, on a full-time basis. This is based on UFO profile PhD candidate. The exact salary depends on your education and experience.
  • a position for at least 1 FTE. Your employment contract will initially last 1 year. After a satisfactory evaluation of the initial appointment, the contract will be extended for another 3 years.

  • A full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • contribution to commuting expenses
