Reducing Climate Impact with Sustainable ICT Innovations

About this position

TNO is actively working on limiting the CO2e emissions of our digital infrastructure and ICT usage. We're looking for motivated students to join our team in making a positive impact on the environment by reducing the climate impact of ICT usage.

Our mission is to make the ICT sector more sustainable. We're doing research in various areas, such as measuring CO2e emissions, life cycle analysis of hardware, infrastructure optimization, software optimization, modeling user behavior, business modeling, and policy analysis.

As a student, you'll be part of a team of top experts working on various aspects of the sustainability of ICT use. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that can positively influence the ICT sector.

Our research covers:

  • The measurement of energy use of ICT services (scope 2 emissions).
  • Increasing efficiency of ICT itself.
  • Analysis of the impact of the hardware itself (scope 3 emissions).
  • Studying the user behavior of ICT services.
  • Studying market forces and policy effects.

You'll have the chance to work on projects that cover these areas, and you'll be given the scope to get the best out of yourself. We offer both thesis internships and regular internships, which may range from 3 to 9 months.

Your work will be part of a bigger effort, and you'll be working within a team of about 20 people. Depending on the assignment, the main TNO location will differ, but you'll be expected to work on location, with the option of working part of your week from home.

We expect a pro-active attitude, enthusiasm, curiosity, and an eagerness to learn and explore from you. You want to make a meaningful impact during your internship, and we offer:
