About the Role

The Universiteit van Amsterdam is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join its research team. As a PhD researcher, you will play a crucial role in shaping and executing new lines of research related to gendered emotion expression across cultures.

Job Description

This position falls under the Starter+Stimulus Grant Project "Do We Even Speak the Same Language? Gendered Emotion Expression across Cultures" supervised by Dr. Katharina Block, Dr. Michael Boiger, and Dr. Suzanne Oosterwijk. You will be responsible for designing and performing empirical studies, analyzing big data, and presenting your work at international conferences and in scientific journals.

Our team is working on a project that examines how cultural contexts shape gendered emotions. This involves conducting research and completing a PhD thesis within the period of appointment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social and/or cultural psychology, excellent writing and presentation skills, and experience with statistical procedures such as multi-level modeling.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting research and completing a PhD thesis
  • Conceptualizing and planning empirical studies on the project topic
  • Drafting pre-registrations and submitting ethics reviews
  • Learning and executing innovative quantitative techniques
  • Presentation of research results at national and international workshops and conferences
  • Drafting articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have a Master's degree in psychology or a closely related field by February 1st. You should also enjoy working collaboratively, have excellent writing and presentation skills in English, and be highly motivated to research gender, culture, and emotions.

Benefits

We offer a temporary full-time position of 38 hours a week for a term of 4 years. Your salary will be €2247,- gross per month in the first year and increase to €3045,- in the final year, based on full-time employment. We also provide an extensive package of secondary benefits, including additional holiday allowance and a year-end bonus.
