Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The successful candidate will be part of the InSilicoHealth Doctoral Network, a European-funded project that aims to train a new generation of researchers in the field of in silico health.

Research Focus

The PhD project will focus on integrating Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles into the development of in silico technologies. The researcher will work closely with the project team to evaluate the complex interactions between stakeholders in the in silico health ecosystem and develop strategies to mitigate potential risks while accelerating the adoption of these technologies in real-world healthcare.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ethnographic research to document the work of researchers in the in silico health ecosystem
  • Participate in lab meetings and conduct semi-structured interviews to analyze how values and social considerations shape research decisions
  • Perform a systematic desk review of ELSI-related documents to identify key stakeholders and gather insights to inform the development of a standardized research protocol
  • Develop a research protocol that maps the evolution of in silico technologies for healthy aging and ensures that ethical reflection and public engagement are integrated into the research process
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Science and Technology Studies or related field
  • Proven proficiency in English language equivalent to B2 level
  • Did not reside or carry out main activity in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the three years before 1st of January 2025
  • Ambitious, well-organized, team player with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and have a critical mindset
  • Pro-active and motivated person, eager to participate in network-wide training events, international mobility, and public dissemination activities
What We Offer

  • Salary of minimum € 2.872,- during the first year, increasing to € 3.670,00 gross per month in the 4th and final year, on a full-time basis
  • Position for at least 1 FTE (38 hours per week)
