Researcher in Saturated Granular Fluids and Solids

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the University of Twente, working on a novel, unified constitutive model for saturated granular fluids and solids. This project is part of the EU-funded Marie Curie Doctoral Network POSEIDON, aiming to improve offshore infrastructure resilience against geohazards.

About the Project

The project focuses on developing a unified constitutive model for saturated granular fluids and solids, which will enable accurate predictions of the behavior of submarine landslides. The researcher will work closely with our team to implement the new constitutive model in a continuum solver and validate it using laboratory experiments.

Objectives
  • Assess the suitability of theoretical frameworks to describe solid-to-fluid and fluid-to-solid transitions in saturated granular masses
  • Develop micromechanical-based unified constitutive models that capture these transitions
  • Validate the models using laboratory experiments
Your Profile
  • MSc degree in a relevant field such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computational physics, or applied mathematics
  • Good knowledge of transport and constitutive behavior of fluid-saturated sediments
  • Sound programming skills in C/C++, Fortran, or Python
  • Previous experience with rheological or plasticity laws for constitutive modeling of sediments is advantageous
