Job Overview:

We are seeking a Country Sustainability Manager to be based in our Service Office.

The Country Sustainability Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective integration and execution of the Ingka sustainability strategy, People & Planet Positive. This role involves setting expectations for the business while serving as a knowledgeable sustainability partner, ensuring local relevance.

As a key influencer, you will advocate for sustainability both within the organization and in external engagements, closely aligning with decision-making processes.


Key Responsibilities:

In this position, you will oversee:

  • The seamless integration and execution of the People & Planet Positive sustainability strategy, establishing clear roles and responsibilities within the business while supporting as a knowledgeable partner.
  • Acting as the sustainability spokesperson by understanding market consumer behavior and collaborating across the organization to implement sustainability requirements throughout the country.
  • The integration of sustainability initiatives across all markets, customer interaction points, stores, and units.
  • Utilizing approved methods and tools from Group Sustainability to engage with relevant functions.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to address business challenges with a growth-oriented and purpose-driven mindset.
  • Ensure local adaptation of global sustainability goals and maintain an external perspective by monitoring trends and future developments.
  • Lead conception, exploration, and development of business cases in partnership with Group Sustainability, as well as manage country-specific projects as needed.
  • Foster a performance-driven culture throughout the organization.
  • Serve as an effective spokesperson, engaging in advocacy, networking, and empowering others to represent sustainability.
  • Ensure a positive impact on local communities through a deep understanding of their needs and collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Engage all employees in creating a sustainable IKEA by working with the sustainability matrix and sharing valuable insights.

You will lead a team of Sustainability Business Partners and temporary Project Leaders based on relevant business cases. Additionally, you will be part of the Country Commercial Team, contributing a sustainability perspective to the Country Business Plan processes to ensure sustainability is embedded in the commercial agenda.

Required Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of change management and stakeholder engagement within IKEA.
  • Proficient in project management methodologies, including initiation, planning, execution, and closure.
  • In-depth knowledge of balancing environmental, social, and economic factors to define sustainability and its application in business.
  • Familiarity with the IKEA Concept, brand positioning, and corporate culture.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant business processes, tools, and cycles.
  • Awareness of sustainability topics relevant to the specific market.
  • Knowledge of strategies to transition operations to become climate positive and contribute to a circular economy.
  • Ability to craft compelling narratives that build trust and inspire audiences.
  • Understanding of sales activation and the commercial calendar.
  • Awareness of local community challenges and how IKEA can empower them.
  • Ability to analyze sustainability data for insights into customer behavior and decision-making.

The Country Sustainability Manager will report to the Country Commercial Manager.
