This project aims to develop groundbreaking developments in next-generation high-tech equipment to support growth and development of important Dutch high-tech sectors.
The ProjectThe project focuses on laser-based methods for printing ever finer structuring required for bonding and assembly of complex electronic and photonic circuits. Laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) is an innovative Additive Manufacturing process that enables the transfer of a small volume of a thin donor film to a substrate via a laser beam. The successful candidate will investigate novel methods for laser-assisted soldering of circuit elements to improve the assembly of heterogeneous systems of electronic and photonic chips.
Your RoleAs a PhD researcher, you will develop a setup to enable the laser-assisted transfer and analyze printed materials at the Chair of Laser Processing. You will closely collaborate with researchers in other groups at the University of Twente and industrial partners in the project. You will also have access to the renowned research facilities of the University of Twente.
Requirements- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, Electrical or Materials Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Good knowledge of fundamental aspects of laser-material processing and applied knowledge in laser micromachining.
- Experience in using a range of technologies/techniques for surface characterisation, e.g. SEM, EDX, AFM, etc.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment and undertake experimental research.
- Good knowledge/demonstrated awareness of (numerical) modelling.
- Excellent analysis skills and an analytical mind-set, as well as excellent communication skills, including written.
- English language proficiency.
- A four-year fulltime PhD position.
