Marine Engineering Design Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Engineering Design Specialist to join our team at Damen Naval. As a key member of our Proposals department, you will be responsible for conceptualizing and contract designing of mechanical marine engineering systems for our state-of-the-art naval vessels.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary project team, where you will come up with innovative marine engineering design solutions as part of a commercially viable and attractive proposition. You will have a winning mentality, combined with excellent numerical and digital insights as it involves complex solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Define general system architectures, weight, power, and cost estimations, main ships balances, and system configurations as part of the design and tender package.
- Contribute to requirements analysis, draft marine engineering specifications, and support subcontractor quotation processes and evaluations.
- Evaluate designs against requirements and prepare corresponding reports.
- Write technical documents, contract specifications, and reports, effectively communicating complex concepts and data to customers and suppliers.
- Participate in discussions with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders on technical and commercial aspects of proposed solutions.
- Support cost evaluations provided by suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal departments to optimize project outcomes.
Requirements
- At least one year of relevant experience in marine engineering design concepts and practices, preferably in complex naval projects.
- Excellent writing skills, able to deliver compelling text, figures, and calculations encompassing very specific technical details and specifications.
- A commercial mind-set to deliver viable yet attractive technical and financial forecasts and propositions.
- Bachelor or Master's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal, with a preference for also speaking Dutch.
