Background information

As one of the leading companies in the semiconductor industry, ASML is working on preventing one of the most important reasons for yield loss to our customers: tiny particles. In the ASML Tribology and Electrostatics research group, we aim to comprehend the behavior of particles and how to avoid them from creating problems by migrating to the wrong locations within the machine and generating discharges that will produce more particles. We are responsible for improving ASML's product portfolio such that the electrostatic and tribology aspect(s) are functional and reliable. One such topic is particle induced discharges in deep vacuum system(s).

Your assignment

In this assignment, you will be responsible for conducting a literature review on particle-induced discharges in a uniform direct current (DC) field within a deep vacuum system. As an intern in the team, you will bring a fresh perspective and contribute with your innovative ideas to the investigation of particle/surface interaction.
 

Some of your tasks will include:

Conduct a literature review on particle-induced discharges;

Develop a numerical model to predict particle interactions;

Create a transfer function to optimize particle and material properties;

Collaborate with experienced experimentalists to form your hypothesis, model validation, and hands-on experience with a high voltage test setups. 

Your profile

To be a match for this internship, you:

Are busy with your master's in Physics or Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Photonics or Electronics;

Are skilled in tooling like MATLAB and/or COMSOL;

Are solution oriented and have a hands-on mentality;

Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

This is an apprentice/ graduation internship for 5 days a week with a duration of at least 6 months. The start date is around August/September.

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
