Background information

ASML is an innovation leader in the semiconductor industry. We provide chipmakers with sophisticated hardware to achieve lithographic patterning of several nm-size microchip features. The unprecedented precision and accuracy of our tools would not be possible without highly advanced optical measurement systems. Furthermore, it is vital for us to stay ahead of competition.

This internship is within the System Performance DUV department which is part of Performance & Integration cluster in D&E. We predict and optimize how our scanners will perform in their natural habitat: our customer's wafer fab. We perform this task for DUV scanners.

Within the Imaging competence we learn the basic principles of our lithographic system, to be in the heart of its development, understand contribution of various system components (aberrations, focus, dose, illumination, dynamics etc.) on the basic imaging functionality, collaborate with various functional clusters as well as our supporting competencies (resist, reticle, wafer metrology).

Your Assignment

Within the Imaging DUV group we are developing a model which is aimed at predicting the scanner performance from various contributors - one of them being straylight. At this moment straylight contribution is not fully understood and we need a dedicated assignment to tackle this topic properly.
The goal of this internship will be to:

Create better understanding of the physical background of straylight and improve our current model Gain understanding of the Point spread function (PSF) Test conversion of physical data to the PSF model

Your profile

To be the perfect match for this internship you:

Are a master student in physics, optics, looking for an apprentice internship; 

Have an affinity with physics concepts which are related to imaging

Are a detail oriented, critical thinker, and able to work independently;

Have knowledge of scientific programming languages such as MATLAB or Python;

Likes to work in a dynamic team

Fluent in English both verbal and in written;

This is a non-thesis related assignment, for minimum 6 months starting in September 2024. Working for minimum 32 hours per week, with a maximum of 40. You are enrolled at a higher education institution for the entire duration of the internship. You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you 're currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, please include in your CV/motivation letter willingness to relocate.
