Location: Netherlands - Leiden (on-site/hybrid 4 days out 5 in office preferred)

Hours: 40 / week

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Scientific Operations with a strong background in pre- and clinical project management within the pharmaceutical / biotech industry to join our team. In this role, you will be overseeing activities in our own lab the Netherlands, incl pharmacology and biomarker projects which includes timelines, managing budget and risks, coordinating cross functional and cross partner collaborations, ensuring to advance our preclinical studies and clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities:


• Overseeing a small but mighty team of scientists and technicians, guiding their day-to-day deliverables, the scope of each lab member scientific research in the lab and help to interpret experimental results.


• Overseeing projects from start to finish, ensuring they align with timelines, objectives, and quality standards. You work closely with other departments, CRO's and experts to ensure the efficiency and quality of the lab within the organisation.


• Coordinate and oversee non-scientific activities within the lab, including day-to-day office operations such as organisation, HR-related processes, space planning and negotiations, and infrastructure management.


• Collaborate closely with on-site employees across legal, finance and administrative functions to ensure mission alignment and consistent quality and regulatory standards.


• Managing relationships, effective communication and collaborating with cross-functional teams, external partners, and stakeholders.


• Provide strategic advice, contribute to long-term project sustainability, and ensure full alignment with the company's overall goals.


• Manage and coordinate external service providers, with a focus on performance oversight and risk management.


• Goal setting and performance management for supportive staff, technicians and scientists


• Report to CSO

Your profile


• Scientific background, extensive operations management experience, preferable with a Ph.D.


• Strong operational skills, with 6-8 plus years of experience in the biotechnology industry and a focus on early stage lab coordination in (pre-) clinical trials.


• Demonstrated experience in interacting and coordinating with cross-functional teams in the development and execution of biomarker strategies for preclinical studies and clinical trials.


• Strong communication, administrative and presentation skills in English with the ability to generate timelines, budget, project, vendor and or collaborative overviews.


• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, achieve project, and team goals and proven record with performance management.
