About the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM)
The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) is committed to a healthy population and a sustainable, safe and healthy living environment. We do this on the basis of independent scientific research. Together with our clients, we identify which research is needed and carry it out. We provide advice to the government, professionals and citizens and share our knowledge. In this way we support society to keep ourselves and our living environment healthy. The quality of the living environment is of paramount importance to the Center for Sustainability, Environment and Health (DMG). The center has four departments, with the Sustainable Environment, Drinking Water and Biodiversity (DDB) department conducting research into the quality of natural resources and biodiversity. Consider the subsurface, which plays a crucial role in drinking water and food production. Or greenery in the city that provides a healthy living environment and offers cooling. These “ecosystem services” are not infinite and must therefore be handled sustainably. We provide insight into the contribution of ecosystem services within social themes such as climate change, sustainable agriculture, housing construction and a healthy living environment. Would you like to help the Netherlands deal with our ecosystem better and more sustainably?
