Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer in the Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit of the School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 524206), to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.
Applicants should possess a master’s degree or a doctoral degree with a background in health science related disciplines, bioethics or humanities, with a minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in research and teaching. They should also have a solid track record of teaching in bioethics/medical ethics and substantial experience in curriculum development and innovation. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to engage undergraduate students are essential. Experience working in the local health care sector would be desirable.
The appointee will be responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of the MBBS medical ethics and law curriculum, including face-to-face and/or online teaching as required. He/She will also contribute to the continuing development of a cohesive and contextually-relevant framework for medical ethics teaching and embedding relevant content in other areas of the MBBS curriculum.
In response to the changing environment of higher education, the appointee will develop innovative teaching and learning activities including the use of educational technologies and assist in constructing assessment tasks and examination questions as necessary. He/She will also assist in designing faculty development / student engagement activities related to medical ethics.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
