Your role

As the Client Protection Standards Officer, you will ensure FMO's clients provide financial services that are safe, responsible, and fair for end-users. You will focus on the implementation of Client and Consumer Protection Standards (CPS) in our investment process. In this role you report to the Sustainability Standards Integration (SSI) Manager.

Your responsibilities include:

-Managing and maintaining our CPS processes and procedures, such as:

Providing expert input into our Client Protection policy statement. Enhancing the CPS assessment tool and integrating it with due diligence tools. Developing a process for monitoring post-investment client protection risks. Integrating CPS into systems for precise information capture.

-Designing protocols and processes that support a robust governance, accountability and compliance with EU Sustainable Regulatory due diligence requirements.

-Keeping yourself updated on changes in regulations, emerging risks such as fintech and digital lending, and developments in the industry for an ongoing translation into effective operational tools and guidance. Participating in conferences.

-Engaging in industry discussions and policy developments with stakeholders (for example, Cerise+SPTF, GOGLA) and Development Finance Institutions.

-Building a knowledge base on client protection through training and technical guidance.

-Serving as the contact point for publishing information / disclosures on client protection related aspects ( both internal and external).

-Coordinating with our Client Protection sector representatives and chairing meetings.

-Advising sector departments and decision makers on Client Protection Standards, focusing on complex transactions and supporting the monitoring and implementation of action plans.

To be successful in this role you bring along extensive knowledge and experience in client protection. You are able to integrate risk-based client protection due diligence into the investment process clearly.

Gross yearly salary ranging from EUR 65K-90K on a 40-hour contract (including holiday allowance 8%), depending on your seniority, years of relevant experience, and background. Your team

The ESG+ Department has recently set up a new Sustainability Standards and Integration team. The team enables our organization to perform due diligence in line with sustainability focused legislation, regulation and standards embedded in our Sustainability Policy. This team develops the requisite tools, due diligence guidance and protocols to integrate innovative sustainability standards in our process and procedures. Areas of focus currently include, EU sustainable finance regulation, climate risk and Paris alignment assessment at client and transaction level, as well as customer protection.

When there is a need for complex transactions in this realm, the team may also provide due diligence support to the sector departments, extra to the ESG due diligence conducted by the ESG teams.

Your background

You can structure and simplify difficult concepts, and you excel at working in and supporting multi-disciplinary teams. With an innovative mindset, you are keen to try the latest approaches. You proactively build and leverage relationships with departments, clients, and strategic partners. Also, you are able to establish credibility, persuade and influence a wide range of stakeholders. Your orientation on service and clients is strong. You possess excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal). An additional foreign language is preferred. 

Master’s degree in international law, social and economic studies, or a related field. At least 7 years of relevant experience, including projects in microfinance in emerging markets. Knowledge of client protection principles and standards, including the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and related standards. Experience with risk-based client protection due diligence. You worked with principles from frameworks such as the OECD High-Level Principles on Financial Consumer Protection and the Client Protection Principles by the Center for Financial Inclusion/Cerise-SPTF. Demonstrable experience in the financial sector implementing the OECD Guidelines' consumer protection measures for Multinational Enterprises. Expertise in developing due diligence tools, guidelines, and processes.
