**Background information**:
Within ASML, the Development & Engineering (D&E) sector is responsible for the specification and the design of the ASML lithography systems. During the internship, you will be part of the Computational Analysis and Digital Engineering team - responsible for numerical simulations of various physics disciplines, structural mechanics, thermal and acoustics.
**Your assignment**:
Acoustic disturbances acting on DUV scanner performance become increasingly important for systems with increased throughput. A methodology to model acoustic-structure interaction using a one-way coupling strategy is currently being developed at ASML. This will enable the prediction of system performance characteristics more accurately. Further, there are ongoing activities to set up two ways coupled reduced order structural-acoustic models. To facilitate this, we have two assignments for two interns:
**Assignment 1 **is about Efficient Prediction of Acoustic Pressure for Full Wafer Exposure. This internship aims to investigate a methodology to efficiently predict the position-dependent acoustic pressure response due to a full wafer exposure trajectory.
Some of your tasks may include:
- Collaborate with the team to grasp the positional dependencies in acoustic simulation;
- Work towards a methodology that utilizes simulation data acquired from different positions of a moving part to accurately predict acoustic characteristics at any point within a defined range;
- Assist in validating the developed methodology by comparing predicted results with actual simulation outcomes for varying positions;
- Engage in the analysis of prediction errors and discrepancies to fine-tune the methodology and enhance its predictive accuracy;
- Document the methodology development process, outcomes, insights, and recommendations for internal reference and potential publication.
**Assignment 2 **is about Developing Reduced Order Models (ROM) for Two-way Coupled Acoustic-Structural Simulations. This internship aims to implement a methodology to generate and utilize state-space models from reduced-order models to enhance acoustic structural simulations. Expected outcomes include demonstrating the maintained accuracy in the ROM and state-space models compared to high-fidelity simulations, as well as assessing the scalability of these techniques to more complex or larger-scale problems.
Some of your tasks may include:
- Collaborate with team to deepen understanding of two-way acoustic-structural coupling mechanisms and their simulation via COMSOL, ANSYS, and MATLAB;
- Work towards developing methodology on transitioning two-way coupled acoustic-structural simulation challenges into state-space models;
- Investigate how to combine these reduced state-space models with comprehensive system models;
- Take part in validating the simulation process;
- Analyze and interpret simulation results and document all findings.
**Your profile**:
To be a good match for this internship, you:
- Are busy with your master's in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Applied Physics;
- Are interested in computational mechanics and numerical methods;
- Are skilled in tooling like MATLAB;
- Have an understanding of acoustics and structural dynamics;
- Have some familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FE) software, such as COMSOL and ANSYS (a plus);
- Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).
These internships have a minimum duration of 3 months, working 5 days a week. The start date is around August/September.
