Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to investigate the hydrodynamics of droplet-laser interaction in EUV lithography. The successful candidate will join the EUV Plasma Processes group at ARCNL and contribute to the development of new capabilities for laser-tailoring targets.

About the Project

The project aims to deliver the missing insight into the underlying complex physics of EUV-emitting laser-produced plasmas generated from tin targets carefully shaped by a series of laser pre-pulses. The goal is to understand the driving physical processes and develop a thorough understanding of the underlying target dynamics.

Responsibilities

As a PhD researcher, you will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to understand the fluid dynamic fragmentation and vaporization of laser-impacted thin liquid tin targets. You will work closely with the in-house theory group and collaborate with fluid dynamics computationalists and theorists of the Jalaal group at University of Amsterdam.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a MSc physics or applied physics, knowledge about fluid mechanics and/or experimental laser physics is advantageous. Programming skills (Python) are welcomed, and good verbal and written communication skills in English are required.

Working Conditions

The position is intended as a full-time appointment in the service of the Netherlands Foundation of Scientific Research Institutes (NWO-I) for the duration of four years, with a starting salary of gross € 2,781 per month and a range of employment benefits. ARCNL assists any new foreign PhD-student with housing and visa applications and compensates their transport costs and furnishing expenses.
