Mechanical Engineering Internship: Metrology of Subnanometer Glue Drift

2 maanden geleden

Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant, Nederland ASML Voltijd
Background Information

ASML's Sensors Mechanics group is part of the Mechanical Development cluster, responsible for designing optical sensor systems, including wafer height measurement systems and image sensors. The group's development portfolio includes various image sensors, which are used to measure parameters such as the position of the focal plane, light energy, optical aberrations, and stage position relative to a reference. These sensors feature a camera or sensor covered with a glass plate containing optical markers, which are glued to the sensor housing using a 2-component epoxy. The glue connection must be highly stable over time, as any deviations can compromise the quality of the integrated circuit produced by our customer. A significant challenge in achieving this stability is the outgassing that occurs when the glue is exposed to the vacuum inside our scanners. Given the limited in-scanner test time, an offline platform is needed to test potential improvements.

Your Assignment

Your task is to set up and conduct experiments to investigate and improve the drift inherent to some performance-critical glue connections. Available set-ups at ASML and elsewhere will need to be evaluated to determine their suitability and how to leverage them effectively. You will need to assess the instrument's accuracy, select suitable samples, and design a stable support system. Additionally, you will be responsible for processing the results and presenting them in a meaningful way. If time allows, you may have the opportunity to transform your ideas into prototypes to demonstrate feasibility and performance on your set-up.

Your Profile

To be considered for this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field
  • Self-motivated, solution-oriented, and communicative individual with a proactive approach and hands-on mentality to conduct glue experiments and analyses

This is a graduation/apprentice internship, lasting 5 days a week for 5-9 months, starting in September. Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.

At ASML, you will gain valuable experience in a highly innovative environment that sparks your imagination and creativity. In addition to a monthly internship allowance of up to €600 (plus possible housing allowance and free public transport), you will receive practical guidance from experts in the field and the opportunity to work in a dynamic team environment.

ASML is a high-tech company headquartered in the Netherlands, manufacturing complex lithography machines used by chipmakers to produce integrated circuits. Our innovations are driven by engineers who think ahead, and we believe that the winning idea can come from anyone. We love what we do – not because it's easy, but because it's hard.

We are a global team of approximately 42,000 people from 140 different nationalities and counting. Our operations are spread across Europe, Asia, and the US, and we value diversity and inclusion in our workforce.
