Job Opportunity

The Erasmus MC department of Medical Informatics is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to contribute to cutting-edge health AI and data science research. This project will involve collaborating with the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) initiative to develop frameworks for generating reliable real-world evidence.

Research Focus

The successful candidate will be responsible for researching the application of federated data networks to improve best practices in prediction model development. This will involve leading and contributing to projects focused on methodological research in machine learning for healthcare. The research will be conducted in clinical settings, utilizing feature engineering methods, deep learning, and other advanced machine learning techniques to support personalized medicine.

Erasmus MC is a leading institution in health data science, offering a dynamic and cooperative research environment. The department of Medical Informatics specializes in using routine healthcare data and is currently coordinating several projects aimed at building EU-wide and global federated data networks.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Applicants with a background in Natural Sciences, Informatics, Economics, Sociology, or Data Science are encouraged to apply.
  • Interest in data mining, deep learning, machine learning, regression analysis, and programming is required.
  • Candidates with a medical background or experience in the regulatory domain are invited to propose research topics.
  • The successful candidate must be highly motivated, willing to learn, and demonstrate initiative in assigned tasks.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are essential for this international project.

Terms of Employment

  • The position is temporary for 4 years, with a gross monthly salary of €3,017 in the 1st year and €3,824 in the 4th year (scale OIO).
  • Excellent fringe benefits, including a 13th month paid out in November and an individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance with ABP, with approximately 70% of the monthly contribution covered by the employer.
  • Special benefits, such as an in-company physiotherapist and bicycle repairer, as well as access to a gym.
