Technical Focus: Social impact focus to achieve a just transition
In order to meet the 1.5-degree target laid out in the Paris Accords, a speedy Net Zero transition both ethically and practically requires a focus on ensuring that ALL workers, communities, and populations are part of a just transition. In the words of the Institute for Human Rights and Business, the concept of just transition encompasses both public policies and business action to deal with the impacts of industry transition away from greenhouse gas emissions for jobs and livelihoods (the transition out), as well as measures to generate the low or zero greenhouse gas emission jobs and livelihoods of a sustainable society (the transition in).
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Sustainability Partner to join our team at Arcadis. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in driving our Net Zero transition and social impact initiatives. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to achieve a just transition, working closely with our Global Business Areas and stakeholders to identify and develop new solutions and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop industry partnerships that drive a just transition approach that scales beyond the typical project boundaries;
- Author strategic or technical input and review content from others relating to social impact strategies;
- Communicate the latest external social value research and thought leadership;
- Understand emerging measurement and design approaches that can be deployed and scaled up across projects;
- Cultivate a broad view of global policies that are emerging or already in place, a view of the up-in-coming transition approaches, and awareness of expert knowledge of the various guidance and measurement frameworks;
Requirements:
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline, such as sustainability, environmental science, or business administration;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in sustainability, social impact, or a related field;
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful sustainability strategies and partnerships;
- Strong understanding of global sustainability trends, policies, and best practices;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and influence business leaders;
- Fluency in English, with the ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner;
