We are seeking a Director of Public Affairs who possesses extensive experience and a deep understanding of online and platform-related challenges. This role is pivotal in enhancing, professionalizing, and fortifying our expanding Public Affairs (PA) team while developing and implementing a comprehensive global Public Affairs strategy.
In this position, you will have the chance to shape the Public Affairs function and culture within a rapidly growing international technology organization. You will lead a compact yet expanding central team based at our headquarters while mentoring local PA managers across various regions. Together, you will work towards elevating and further professionalizing Public Affairs within the organization.
Your primary challenge will be to cultivate a robust PA culture, guide market PA colleagues, devise impactful campaigns, and articulate our positions on critical issues ranging from employment practices to advancements in artificial intelligence. Additionally, your role is crucial in assisting cross-functional stakeholders in recognizing how our initiatives align with our business goals and contribute to the long-term reputation of the organization.
We anticipate that you will leverage your background in government, NGOs, or corporate public policy teams, alongside your ability to collaborate across functions to develop the broader team, execute a global strategy, and evaluate its effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Enhancing, professionalizing, and strengthening the Public Affairs function;
- Leading and managing the central PA team while coaching local PA managers;
- Educating and advising European country managers on local PA strategies;
- Monitoring significant regulatory, policy, and political developments, assessing their implications for the organization, and delivering insights to key internal stakeholders;
- Defining and executing a public affairs strategy that aligns with business objectives at both central and European levels;
- Drafting position papers on essential policy and regulatory matters, ensuring alignment between business goals and public affairs strategies;
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders from various departments and coordinating cross-functional working groups;
- Promoting and representing the organization's vision and values to a diverse range of stakeholders, including government entities, think tanks, public interest groups, and industry associations;
- Representing the organization in external publications, events, and discussions with policymakers.
Qualifications Required:
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following criteria:
- A Master's degree or equivalent practical experience;
- Over 15 years of experience in technology policy, preferably in a corporate tech-focused environment;
- Proven experience in independently managing public affairs and/or technology policy issues within government, think tanks, public interest groups, or relevant industry associations;
- In-depth knowledge of political and institutional dynamics at international and EU levels;
- Experience in structuring and organizing the Public Affairs function within a tech or online business;
- Familiarity with the technology sector, internet technologies, and the surrounding policy environments, with experience advocating for core tech policy issues;
- A strategic thinker with strong leadership capabilities to effectively engage and influence diverse audiences;
- A collaborative team player with a proactive attitude, eagerness to learn, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment;
- Exceptional project management skills with experience working with international teams and various internal collaborators;
- Ability to articulate complex issues in a manner suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences, with impactful communication skills;
- Proficiency in English, with additional language skills such as French being advantageous.
